Amanee
Simplex Multi-Apartment · Jolshiri Abashon, Sector 16, Dhaka · 2025

Jolshiri Abashon was developed by the Bangladesh Army as a residential estate for its personnel, and any building that takes its address here carries within it an implicit conversation with that institutional identity. At Plot 27, Road 502, Sector 16, 23/90 Architects designed Amanee for MIR Real Estate Ltd. with that context in full view. The building's most distinctive feature is a pair of tall, deep-green vertical fins that rise from the facade's edges and extend above the roofline, their colour chosen as a deliberate reference to the Bangladesh Army, grounding the building's identity in the community it serves and the institution that established the land on which it stands.

The green fins do more than carry symbolic weight. They anchor the building's vertical composition, giving the tower a strong bilateral framing that is visible from the approach road and legible at a distance. Between them, the facade unfolds as a series of staggered balconies that project alternately left and right from the main floor plates, their dark-toned perforated mesh railings providing privacy without blocking light and creating a textured, rhythmic surface that reads differently in shade and direct sun. The balconies are generous in depth, each one planted and usable as an outdoor living extension, their vegetation softening the otherwise controlled geometry of the facade.

The materiality is restrained and consistent. Board-marked concrete forms the primary surface, its pale tone providing contrast against the dark green of the fins and the darker mesh of the balcony edges. This three-part palette of pale concrete, dark green, and perforated charcoal gives the building a coherent identity that holds across all elevations. At the ground floor, a double-height covered entry resolves the arrival with transparency, its columns framing a lobby zone that opens toward the street and the mature trees that line Road 502.

At 2,340 square metres across a 5-katha site, Amanee is a building that understands its place, not just spatially within Sector 16's developing streetscape, but institutionally within a community defined by service and shared identity.
