Cotfield Corporate Office
Corporate Office · Motijhil, Dhaka

Motijhil carries a particular weight in Dhaka's urban imagination. As the city's oldest commercial district, its buildings hold a density of institutional history that newer business zones do not possess. The Cotfield Corporate Office occupies a floor within this fabric, and its design negotiates the conditions of the site with a considered restraint, building an interior that is professional in its organisation without being anonymous in its character.

The entry sequence establishes the project's tone before one crosses the threshold. The Cotfield name, rendered in backlit letters against a plain wall, sits within a framed aperture marked by a rolling shutter and flanked by potted plants. Scattered dark tile inserts on the surrounding wall surface introduce a pattern that is neither geometric nor random, held in careful suspension. The effect is of an entrance that has been composed rather than merely furnished.

Inside, the reception counter anchors the arrival zone with a marble-finish fascia and a backdrop of close-set vertical timber slats, the brand mark positioned centrally against the warm grain. Warm cove lighting runs along the ceiling perimeter, pulling amber light downward into the space and establishing a domestic quality of illumination that resists the fluorescent flatness common to Dhaka's commercial interiors.

The waiting area extends this warmth through a grid-patterned wall treatment of alternating light and dark panels, against which an angular metal bookstand introduces a sculptural note. Seating is low and upholstered, arranged to suggest informality within an otherwise ordered environment.

The meeting rooms are separated from the open floor by etched glass partitions carrying a vertical line pattern, achieving privacy without enclosure. In one chamber, a glass conference table and black leather chairs face floor-to-ceiling glazing that opens directly onto the Bangabandhu National Stadium below, an unexpected and arresting civic backdrop to the work of the office. The city enters not as distraction but as context, reminding those gathered here of the scale of the world outside the glass.

Throughout the project, warm timber veneer, amber lighting, and a restrained palette of cream and dark brown produce an interior of consistent sensibility, assured without being ostentatious, a workplace that takes Motijhil seriously.
